Fabulous Magazine Internship

Hello lovelies,

Again, it's been too long since I last posted but it's been a hectic last few weeks of my first year at University! I have interned, moved out my flat and gone back to work at home in the space of two weeks!

Anyway, this post is about my recent opportunity at Fabulous Magazine where I was able to intern for the duration of 3 weeks. I actually got the internship from seeing a tweet via +Fashion Workie (Great for anyone looking for work/internships in the industry).

Thus I began my first week at Fabulous Magazine..

Lucky enough for me, I live in Epsom so my train into work was exceptionally easy as there is an overground direct route straight to London bridge station. I literally have to walk a few steps over the road and I reach the News building! This great glass building stands up beside it's much larger partner (The shard).

Nice and early I was called up to meet the Fashion Editor Lynne who was so lovely and welcoming into the Office! The staff that were usually in charge of interns were both away so the way I learnt the ropes relied mainly on the other interns, but I didn't have to worry as they were really lovely too and so helpful.

As interns our main responsibilities included-

Checking Emails-

Many brands and PR companies would email every day asking for important items that they sent to Fabulous and they needed them sent back. As well as other important notices that needed to be resolved by us.

Returning Products-

This was one of the main tasks that us Interns were in charge of and it was really important that we stayed on top of it as it can quickly get out of hand! Basically, companies, brands and PR agencies will all send their new season samples of clothing, shoes and accessories for upcoming shoots and features and when they have been used or finished with it's up to us to get them all sent back without delay. Very time consuming but it needed to be done and you also got to see all the gorgeous clothes and accessories!

Handing out Mail-

As you can imagine a weekly magazine like Fabulous get a LOT of mail and it can't all be distributed by one person so us interns have to help out and get the post out. Most of the time it's clothing for shoots so the stylist or who ever has ordered it in will most likely get you to hang it up straight away, ready to be edited down and packed for their shoot!

Assisting on Shoots-

This was deffinatley a highlight of the role for me! I got to attend two different shoots during my 3 weeks at Fabulous and they were great fun each time. The first was a celebrity cover shoot where I got to meet Jess Wright (from Towie) and assist the Stylist for the Cover. The second was a features shoot where I got to assist again, this can be anything from un-packing clothes, steaming items, dressing the models and keeping everyone hydrated! Great fun and a real treat to get out of the office in some great studio locations.

Running Errants-

Most of the time these can be little things such as nipping down to the post room to fetch a specific delivery or phoning certain companies about products. However sometime they are a bit more exciting such as nipping to Oxford street and picking out clothes which is what I had to do on one of my last days! It was great fun and I felt great that I was trusted with such responsibility to pick the right thing. (although I do advise bringing some flat shoes for this sort of thing as I wasn't expecting the trip in my heeled boots and ended up nipping to Primark for some sandals on the way back, blisters were not pretty!! )

Overall I would say this role is great for anyone interested in the fashion industry and it does teach you that if you really want something you have to stick to it. The experience is invaluable as well as the people you meet that you could even find yourself working with in the future. It deffinatley not a light hearted job and does require a lot of effort and persistence but you do get rewarded for your hard work such as assisting on shoots and the lovely big beauty goody bag I received at the end of my 3 weeks!

Hopefully this gave you a little insight into the world of interning! If you have any questions i'd love to hear them! Thanks for looking and i'll be back soon!

Parasian Fun!

So this post is a little late, but that's the usual just of my post's since being at uni! (I apologise) However, I absolutely HAVE to blog about this amazing trip to Paris I had with one of my close friends at the beginning of December. We had a fantastic time, exploring the streets of Paris with great big smiles on our faces! I'm going to post some pics below and let you know the things I highly recommend!

Our first glimpse of Paris- greeted by Beautiful sunshine!

Christmas decorations in Galeries Lafayette

Visiting the Tiffany carriage outside.. well Tifffany's!

Beautiful streets of Paris.
Visiting the Arc de Triumph with blue skies!

This was our first day in Paris! We got to see one of the most popular landmarks in Europe as well as seeing the stunning christmas displays in the biggest department store in Paris. It really was a fantastic first day to our trip, the sun made it even better!

Lunch in a little cafe behind the Eiffel Tower!

The stunning christmas stalls along the Champs Elysees

Dinner at the Marriott Champs Elysees

Macaroons from the Laudre Paris (AMAZING)

Day two consisted of lots of walking! Once we made our way round the Metro system that is. We started of at the Eiffel Tower, truly a sight worth seeing when in Paris. I mean it has to be done, doesn't it? A great monument and quite breathtaking the first time you see it! An icon of Paris and you can see why. We stopped and braved the cold to sit outside in a cute little cafe for lunch, baguettes and french fries were the first on the menu!

We returned to the Champs Elysees and had a look round the beautiful christmas markets, even had a little waffle to keep us going.. it was delicious! Talking of delicious.. the Laudre is the place to go! All the macaroon's you can think of under one delicately pretty roof, be prepared to wait if you want tea however!

For dinner we stopped of at the Marriot hotel on the Champs Elysees. Considering it was a sunday we were seating in a lounge area and surved just as well, a real first class service and gorgeous food.  Definitely worth a stop!

Our Final day in Paris was in my opinion of the best! We started of early and headed to the Grand Palais. It was truly breathtaking and super exciting for any fashion student as we all know it is the home of couture for Chanel! It had europes largest ice rink, right in the middle of it and we couldn't wait to give it ago! With the sun shining down through the gorgeous glass ceiling we were treated to a nearly empty rink! A fantastic morning and I would say a highlight of my trip. We followed on to see the eiffel tower one last time, it's a whole new ball game at night! Sparkling away like a sparkler on bonfire night it was stunning to see.

Overall we had a fantastic time in Paris and I definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of going, not just in the winter but I can imagine it being just as delightful in the summer too. Feel free to ask me any Q's if you have any :)

Thank's for reading and hope to hear from you!

Clothes Show Live 2014

One of the biggest Fashion and Beauty event's in the UK has just had it's last day at the NEC in Birmingham. I am delighted to say I was lucky enough to visit the show on Saturday and had a fantastic time. With the New York themed runway performance in the Alcatel one touch fashion theatre and endless stalls for shopping including big beauty names such as Rimmel London, Barry M, Ciate and THX as well as fashion brands Hotmess!, Public desire, In the style and Millie Mackintosh.
There was also a designer outlet available for Platinum ticket holders which included names such as Bora Aksu, Muubaa, CLEO B, Bolongaro Trevor and Gushlow & Cole. The show is also a great place to visit if you are looking at pursuing a future career or further education in the fashion industry as top insiders and universities such as the Conde Nast college of Fashion and my very own UCA university all have stall's to give you any information you need!
I have attended the Clothes show for 5 years in a row now and have truly enjoyed myself every single year! I would deffinatley recommend it to Fashion student's just as much as anyone interested in the industry or just likes a good shop!
Here are some images from the day and some of the best bargain's I nabbed! (Another highlight of the event)

Thank's for reading and please don't hesitate to ask any question's about the show! Love hearing feedback from you guys :) Hope you enjoyed and ill be back soon,

Ashleigh's Nails

So I havnt had a nail post for a while and I was feeling inspired by a post I saw on Wah nails instagram! It featured a dry brush technique that gave a cool, celine esque effect on a white base! Really simple to create, just apply a white base coat and wait to dry. Then pick 2/3 matchy colours (or clashing) completley up to you! Wipe of as much excess paint on the side of the bottle then using a paper towell wipe of any remaining excess, then paint away! Using the dry strokes on your white base really highlights the brush lines and I love it! Here's my attempt below, let me know if you give it a go or want any more info!

Hope you enjoyed!
Should be back soon,

Ashleigh's nails!

Hello everyone!
It's that time of week again, new nails! Here's a couple I have had over the past few days. Using both Models own and French Connection polishes I created these two looks!

Models own 'Fuzzy Peach'
I created this look with the peach base colour and using nail pens applied the Leopard print effect. All you have to do to create this look is apply a few white patches around the nail. After you have applied the white just do a few small black outlines but do not outline the whole patch or it will look like spots! Add your top coat and you are away :)

French connection Maroon Purple (out of a gift set)

To create this daisy print look, you will need a base colour, white polish pen/brush, and yellow polish pen/brush. To start randomly apply small yellow dots around the nail (not too close together). Then after they have dried apply small white dots around the yellow spot to create the daisy effect! Try to use a small round nail stick to do this or nail pen as using a polish brush will just make big splodges of white and ruin the effect.

Hope you enjoyed my two quick leopard print and daisy print mani's! If you have any questions please feel free to ask and leave any feedback or comments!
Thank's for looking,

Pay day buys/Pastel Purchase's!

Hello everyone!
Sorry I haven't been blogging for a while, I have been very busy this month. Although that hasn't stopped me shopping I'm afraid.. this S/S pastel trend has had my eye ever since I saw it first on Burberry Porsum Runway last year. I have found some amazing little buys this last month and thought you may enjoy a little peek. Also the prices I got some bits for are ridiculously good!
Sorry the images aren't that great, I will use my camera for blogging at some point but atm i just don't have the time I'm afraid! *forgive me please*

Pastel Grey, Faux leather and croc bag- H&M *£7*
(I couldn't believe it either!)

.
Snakeskin and pony leapord effect gold buckle belt- Primark- £2
.
AMAZING- faux fur pastel pink skirt
Generation New look £8!! (steal)
.
.
Pastel pink luxe t-shirt- F&F Tesco- £14
This is a gorgeous soft, classy material!
Pastel Blue and Pastel Purple Crop Jumpers- Primark- £10 each.
These are just as soft as the more expensive versions!
Pastel pink scarf- H&M- £7
I was amazed at the bargains I found this month, my bank statement was pretty pleased too! I love finding something I adore and then having an equally adorable price tag with it, that happened with that stunning pastel pink skirt from Generation New look. So what if its kids?  I'll keep squeezing into size 12-13's if it save's me a few pounds.. in this case quite a few considering the exact replica was in Topshop for about 3 times the price!

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed this little blog post as much as I enjoyed bargain hunting!
Ill be posting soon about my favourite looks from this last months fashion weeks so look out for that if you wish :)
Please feel free to comment and share!
